Steve, in your lesson as well as in a lot of grammar books the structure have/got something done are explained as something was done by someone other than the subject of the sentence. But watching movies I've noticed a bit different meaning: "someone did that and we don't know who it was". E.g. I heard: "He got that hatch closed". And in this case it meant "He has arranged to close the hatch and nobody knows who did that job". He could do it himself, or as McCartney sings "with a little help of my (his) friends", or he just looked on over beer. We just know that closing hatch was his responsibility.
